Kathleen Morris Gooden, 89, went to be with her Lord and Savior November 1, 2015. She was born March 19, 1926 in Port Republic, Virginia and was the daughter of the late James Clifton Morris and Mary Frances (Raynes) Morris. She attended Port Republic School. She was employed at Duplant in Grottoes, Rockingham Sleepware and Metro Pants. She retired in 1992 from Sunnyside Presbyterian Home, where she worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant, the job she loved and enjoyed the most.

Katheen was active in church, serving as a Sunday School and Bible School teacher. She was a member of Souls Harbor Church in Elkton, Virginia. She was a faithful servant of her Lord Jesus Christ, a loving mother and an adored grandmother, great grandmother and great, great grandmother.

Kathleen was small stature but she was a giant of a woman, who left a great legacy of unwavering faith and trust in God, and loving dedication to her family. The most precious thing in her life was spending time with her family, including her church family. She enjoyed playing games, shopping, cruises and camping with them. She found so much comfort and enjoyment in reading her Bible, other books, the newspaper and swinging on the porch swing.

She is survived by two daughters, Venda Gooden King and husband Billy, of Elkton, VA, Lois Gooden Hensley and husband, David of Elkton, VA; two sons, Dallas W. Gooden and wife, Patty of Syracuse, NY, and Galen H. Gooden of Grottoes, VA.

She is survived by eleven grandchildren, Douglas King, Lora Ferrell and husband, Michael, Jeff Hensley and wife, Patty, Donna Shipe and husband, Daryl, Marsha Gheen and husband, Tyrone, Dallas Gooden and wife, Julie, Tyler Gooden and wife, Jennifer, Missy Courtney and husband, Dale, Angie Morston and husband Randy, Devon Seekford and husband, Donnie and Troy Lamb; 30 great grandchildren, 12 great, great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Also, Kenneth and Vickie Brinkley who were like grandchildren to her.

Kathleen was the last survivor of her siblings. She was proceeded in death by a sister, Lillian Baker and three brothers, James Jackson Morris, Marvin Harrison Morris and Elzie Jarrels Morris, and three other siblings who died at the age of two, Nina, Mabel and Richard Morris.

A funeral service will be conducted Thursday, November 5th at 2PM at Souls Harbor Church in Elkton, Virginia, with Reverend Alvin Dovel and Reverend Ronnie Sipe officiating. Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Harrisonburg.

Family will receive friends Wednesday November 4th from 6PM-8PM at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Harrisonburg, and at the home of David and Lois Hensley at anytime.

A special thanks to the Staff at Bridgewater Home, who cared for and loved Kathleen, who was known by all as Grandma.
