Age 34.

A sergeant with the Lake County Sheriff's Dept., he was murdered when he stopped to assist two motorists with car trouble. Shot three times in the back, then once in the head, they stole his wallet and revolver, then attempted to escape in his patrol car.

Rich was the only child of older parents, raised in Windsor, CA. He went to school in the Santa Rosa area, majoring in law enforcement in college. The summer he turned 21 he moved to Lake County, CA to become a resident of Clearlake Oaks and a new deputy for the Lake County Sheriff's Department. This was during the time period when most young men his age were growing their hair long and society at large was beginning to question authority.

He was very tall and handsome, quick to laugh, with a cynical, impish sense of humor. He made friends easily and became a well-thought-of member of the community. He loved his job and he loved his family. He left behind a widowed mother, two young daughters, and a grieving community. He would have been proud, pleased and probably somewhat surprised at the impact he made on all their lives.
