Mickey's father was of Irish extraction, whose parents' families both hailed from County Leitrim, Ireland. Mickey's mother's parents were both German - her father from Wurttemberg and her mother's parents being from Wurttemberg and Bavaria, respectively.

Mickey was a police officer in Philadelphia for 23 years. He also served in WWII aboard the U.S.S. Kasaan Bay (CVE 69).

Mickey's 2x great uncle was Albert Schoenhut, the well-known wooden toy and toy piano manufacturer.
