Ernest N. Freitas Aug. 17, 1926 - Sept. 13, 2013 Resident of San Leandro Ernie was born in Oakland and passed away after battling an illness. He was preceded in death by his grandchildren, Chucky and Christina Velinte. Ernie, 87, had a long career with the Teamsters Union Locals 468 & 70, beginning his career as a driver for Sterling Transit in 1947 and then King & Sons Trucking. Ernie and George King, Sr., chartered a new Local known as Line Drivers 468 which later transferred back to Local 70. He was then appointed secretary treasurer until his retirement in 1991 and later served as president of the East Bay Teamsters Retiree Club in Oakland, CA. Due to an illness he retired in December 2012. The California native served as a seaman 2nd class in the United States Coast Guard until his discharge on May 15, 1946. Ernie was the son of the late Ernest and Clara Freitas of Honolulu, HI. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Kathryn Freitas, beloved father of Gary Freitas and Kathy Velinte. He is also survived by his brother George M. King, Jr., and wife Vangie of Hayward. Loving grandfather of 6 grandchildren and one great grandchild. He will be missed by his family and friends and his fellow Teamster brothers. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at Grissom's Mortuary, 267 E. Lewelling Blvd., San Lorenzo, CA on Friday, Sept., 20th at 12Noon. Immediately after the memorial service a small reception will be held at 351 Oxford St., Hayward, CA.
