Arthur Patrick "Pat" Abel, 71, of Owensboro, Kentucky passed away on Friday, October 9, 2015, while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky, after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born December 16, 1943 in Owensboro, the son of the late Lamar and Olivia Abel. He retired from Woodruff Supply Company in May, 2010. Pat was an active member of Sts. Joseph & Paul Catholic Church.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Verdie Stevens and Rebecca Booker; brothers, George Bivens, John Abel and Jack Abel; and his first wife, Roberta Abel. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Carolyn Abel; two daughters, Jill Abel Beierle (Damian) of Louisville, KY and Janet Abel of Jacksonville, FL; four grandchildren, Ethan, Seth, Haley and Ian Beierle; two sisters, Betty Young of Rockport, IN and Nancy Bumm (Les) of Owensboro; and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Pat served in the U.S. Army and Kentucky National Guard, and was a member of the American Legion of Owensboro. He was past President and board member of Windridge Country Club, advisor of Junior Achievement, Inc. of Owensboro and was a coach and assistant coach of Pop Warner youth football. Pat also served as the Team Leader of the Finance Committee, Eucharistic minister, altar server, bereavement team member, volunteer for the Annual Block Party as well as a volunteer for several other church projects at Sts. Joseph & Paul Catholic Church.

Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 12, 2015, at Sts. Joseph & Paul Catholic Church in Owensboro with Rev. Carl McCarthy officiating. Entombment is in Resurrection Cemetery in Owensboro.
