Rev. J. Lewis “Lew” Stancil, 86, of Port Charlotte, FL went to be with the Lord October 2, 2015. He was the son of Fred and Myrtice (McMillan) Stancil, born July 3, 1929 in Wauchula, FL. Lew earned his undergraduate degree at Stetson University and graduate degree at Southwestern Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, TX. Lew met his wife Joan May at Stetson University and they were married on January 17, 1953. He was a pastor in Florida for over 40 years, and was the founding pastor of Murdock Baptist Church; he concluded his ministry at Charlotte Correction Institute where the inmate’s nickname for him was the “Happy Chap.” Lew was dedicated to his family. He enjoyed singing old hymns, gardening, and his daily walks.

Lew will be greatly missed by his wife of 62 years, Joan “Jo”; sons, Mark (Trish), Phil (Terri), Jonathan and Paul; brother, Earl (Nina); sister, Geraldine; grandchildren, Matt, Michael (Leah), Jacob (Kim), Jennifer, Emily and Zachary; great-grandchildren, Noah, Emma, Caleb and Carson.

The family will receive friends 5 to 6:30pm, Monday, October 5, 2015 at Murdock Baptist Church. The funeral service in celebration of Lew’s life will be held at 10am, Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at Murdock Baptist Church. Burial will be at Glenwood Cemetery, Chipley, FL.
