Carroll Van Bergan Luthy Connor, 88 of Fort Myers, Florida, formerly of Peoria, passed away Friday, October 2, 2015 in Peoria with her family by her side.

Born October 13, 1926 in Peoria, the daughter of George and Edith (Carroll) Luthy, she married David Connor on April 15, 1950 in Peoria and he survives.

Also surviving are her daughters, Susan “Toodie” Connor of Monroe, Washington and Sara (Gary) James of Peoria and two granddaughters, Alexandra and Elizabeth James, both of Peoria.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, George Luthy, Jr.

In her teenage years, Carroll enjoyed spending time at the Tepee Lodge in the Big Horn Mountains of Wyoming. She was a 1944 graduate of Smith College in North Hampton, Massachusetts. She and David were active world travelers having visited over 60 countries. She loved to play tennis and golf and was a member of the Country Club of Peoria and the Sanctuary Golf Club of Sanibel, FL. Carroll also loved animals and raised two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.

She was a lifelong volunteer for many charitable endeavors for which she was voted Volunteer of the Year in 1966 in Peoria. She had served as the Chairwoman of Lakeview Museum, on the Board of the Children’s Home, as a Girl Scout leader and as a counselor at Camp Lake Hubert in Minnesota. She was a member of the Junior League, the First Friday Group, the National Society of Colonial Dames of America and was a founding member of the Heartland Festival Orchestra. She also participated with Cursillo in Peoria.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Peoria and was a past chairwoman of its Altar Guild. She was also a member of St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Sanibel, Florida and its Altar Guild.

Carroll’s family will celebrate her life on her 89th birthday, Tuesday, October 13th with a Memorial Service at 11:00 am at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Peoria. The Rev. John Blossom will officiate. The family will receive friends from 9:30 am to 10:45 am in the parish library prior to the service. Inurnment will be at the St. Michael’s and All Angels Church Columbarium at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the Heartland Festival Orchestra, Peoria Ballet or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
