President of Panama. Delvalle, born Eric Arturo Delvalle Cohen-Henríquez, served as President of Panama from September 28, 1985 to February 26, 1988. He was a member of the Republican Party in Panama of which his family had founded. In 1984 Delvalle was elected vice president on the ticket with Nicolas Ardito Barletta in a disputed election. After Barletta was forced to resign in 1985, he became president. Delvalle's presidency took place under the "de facto" rule of General Manuel Noriega and he was a loyal ally for much of his administration. After Noriega was indicted in 1988 by the United States, he tried to have Noriega removed, but ended up being voted out of office by the Legislative Assembly, which was controlled by Noriega. Delvalle then went into hiding with the help of the United States government, who still recognized him as president until his term was up in 1989. He was pardoned of any crimes committed during the Noriega years in 1994 by President Guillermo Endara.
