"Some History about Grandma Ibbie. She was born in Tennessee. She was very small, about 2 years old, when Great Grandpa Edens moved to Garfield, Arkansas, on Sugar Creek -- she grew up there. Her name was Ibbie Isabelle Edens. Her Mother was Mary Church Edens, her Father was James Edens. Ibbie was the oldest child. Her Brothers were Will, George, James, Wesley who was blind, Edward, Hiram and Sister Mag.
Jack Edens was the Father of James Edens. Jack lived with James. We have been told that Great-Great Grandpa Jack buried a bucket of GOLD on the Farm in Sugar Creek that was never found. Grandpa Edens moved to Texas after Ibbie married, then they moved to Guyman, Oklahoma.
Myrtle and Jim's first school years were at the Punkin Hill School House, that was just down the hill going to the River on the right side. Bryant gave the School Board permission to build there. It went back to him after they built Coal Gap School House. That old School House stood there for many years. Bryant used it to store food in. Vol tore it down and built that house up on top of the hill that he and Arvel lived in.
Ibbie and Bryant were good people, Dad loved people and liked to visit. I remember an Old Horse we had, "Old Doll." She was black with a white leg and shoulder and a white forehead. Dad drove her a lot and Mother drove her to the buggie and when I was crippled we drove her to school. We would get so embarrassed, every time we met anyone she would stop. Dad would always stop and talk to everyone he would meet and she thought that was what she was supposed to do."
