MARION -- Ruth Laverne Smith, 62, of Marion, died at 1:20 p.m. Saturday, June 22, 1985, in Vienna.
A 20-year resident of Marion, Mrs. Smith worked at Lee Manor Shelter Care Home in Marion until 1975. She had been employed there for more than 10 years.
She was a member of the Long Branch Baptist Church.
Mrs. Smith was born May 8, 1923, in Long Branch Township in Saline County to John Lawrence and Flora Braden Thomas.
She married Pola Smith on Aug. 16, 1945, in Benton.
He survives, along with two daughters, Deborah Norton and Paula Jean Street; two granddaughters; three sisters, Ruby Whittington, West Frankfort, Mary Cantrell, McLeansboro, and Salina Towle, Peoria; and two brothers, Howard Thomas, Galatia, and Charles Thomas, Carmi.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one brother.
Services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Long Branch Baptist Church.
Friends may call at Meredith Funeral Home in Marion from 5 to 9 p.m. today, after 1 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday.
Entombment will be in the Durham Cemetery, Galatia.
Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association and the Arthritis Foundation.
