ELBY - William Lee "Wit" Spikes departed this life Dec. 9, 2013, at White Oak Manor of Shelby.

He was born in Rutherford County to Miller and Oma Gidney Spikes.

He served three and a half years in the US Army.

He married Vertie Moriah Mason Spikes, and from this union five children were born.

William worked many years at Kerr McGee Oil Mill, then retired from PPG Industries after many years of service and never missed a day of work.

He had an incredible sense of humor and always managed to leave you with words of wisdom.
