Byron Merriss Service to Be Held Tuesday

Byron R. Merriss, 71, 2910 Jefferson S.W., died at his home early Sunday morning following a brief illness. He was a retired farmer of the Rockford community and had made his home in Mason City since 1950.
Mr. Merriss was born March 8 1882, on a farm north of Iowa Falls son of Emery F. and Elmira Merriss. He was baptized in the Christian Church at Reeve. He was married to Gertrude Bates, Jan. 14 1903. Surviving are three sons, Mervil, Gerald and Kenneth, all of Mason City; a daughter, Mrs. John (Wava) Siefken, Rockford; two sisters, Mae Stokes, Hampton and Bertha Spears, Geneva; a brother I. V. Merriss, Minneapolis and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Feb. 6, 1951, and by one brother, Lloyd. Funeral services will be held at 1:3.0 p-.m. Tuesday at Wesley Methodist Church, with Doctor Paul Peterson officiating. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Sheffield. Friends may call at the Colonial Funeral Home until the time of services.
