Duchess Consort. Originally Princess of Denmark, Norway and Sweden, Oldenburg Dynasty, she was a daughter of King Christian II and Queen Elizabeth and a powerful person in European history. When King Henry VIII of England was looking for another wife he proposed to her, but she turned him down with the quip that she only had one head. She did marry Duke Francis II Sforza of Milan and after his death in 1535 Duke Francis I of Lorraine. With the later she had three children. In 1576, she left Lorraine and moved back to Italy and lands inherited from her first husband. Her entrails were interred at the Church of St. Francis (ruins), Tortona, Italy. The rest of her of remains were buried first at the Ducal Chapel of Our Lady of Loreto (Chapelle Ducale à Notre-Dame de Lorette), Nancy, then after desecration of the tombs in the French Revolution buried with other ducal remains at Boudonville Cemetery, and finally on Nov. 9th, 1826, laid to rest with great ceremony in this cathedral.
