Taking off from RAF Lossiemouth in Scotland, 115 RAF Squadron’s Vickers Wellington 1A (#P2524) aircraft, with an aircrew of six, was shot down by a German fighter aircraft while the Wellington, on an operation searching for enemy shipping off the cost of Denmark, was attacking the German battleships ‘Schamhorst’ and ‘Gneisenau’.
