Mr. Simmons was retired from the U.S. Air Force as a master sergeant and also from CSX Railroad as a machinist. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hamlet and a lover of golf and was well known for his days as a great baseball player for Rockingham. He called everybody "Dad" and had an infectious laugh, which many will miss.
He is survived by his wife, Becky Hartgrove Simmons of the home; daughters, Robyn Davis of Rockingham and Suzy Davis–Middour (Rob) of Chapel Hill; sons, Bruce Simmons and Ray Davis, both of Rockingham; brother, Cotton Simmons (Elaine) of Greensboro; grandchildren, Dr. Brittany Brown (Brennan), Bryce Futrell (Jesse), Jake Davis, Matthew Simmons (Grae), Katy Webb, Nick Davis, Jack Webb, Emily Davis, Rebecca Davis, Katelyn Davis and Josh Davis; two great-granddaughters, Natalie Brown and McKenzie Futrell; and his two companions, which he adored, Lucy and Rosie.
