Donald J. Skoff, 78, of Camanche, passed away, Monday, September 7, 2015 at his home.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 am, Friday, September 11, 2015 at the Church of the Visitation- Camanche. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the Camanche VFW. Serving as pallbearers will be Alexander Rink, Taylor Rink, Willy Duncan, Tom Skoff, Dan Sieverding, and Dennis Hahn. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Hundley and Dennis Carlsen. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00-7:00 pm and Friday from 9:30 am until the service time at the church. The Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Donald Joseph Skoff was born August 18, 1937 in Charlotte, Iowa, the son of Wilfred and Veronica (Herwath) Skoff. He was a 1955 graduate of Maquoketa High School. He married Beverly Manning on February 6, 1960 in Sugar Creek, Iowa. They have been a member of the Camanche community for 50 years.
Donald served in the United States Army from 1960 to 1964. He then worked for Hawkeye Chemical, later known as PCS Nitrogen, retiring in 1999 after 34 years of service. He also worked at Clinton Engine in Maquoketa for many years.
He was an active member of the Church of the Visitation. He loved to spend time with his family especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing and being on the river. He loved to play golf and was a member of the Canyon Creek Golf Course.
Donald is survived by his wife: Beverly of Camanche; three children: Diane (Scott) Rink of Marion, Iowa, LuAnne (Stan) Smith of Camanche, and Michael (Hollie) Skoff of Camanche; ten grandchildren: Ashley (Sean) Merritts, Taylor Rink, Alexander (Chelsea) Rink, Molly Kuhl, Rachel (Ty Tiesman) Kuhl, Nathan Smith, Kallie (Tom) Teubert, Mason Skoff, Madelynn Skoff, and Brady Beal; 5 great grandchildren; a sister: Gloria (Kenneth) Schrader; 5 special cousins whom he was raised with: Mary (Dan) Sieverding, Darlene (Joe) Cox, Linda (Dennis) Hahn, Tom (Barb) Skoff, and Debbie Skoff; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Donald was preceded in the death by his parents, his Aunt and Uncle who raised him, Verl and Rosemary Skoff, and his mother-in-law, Blanche Massey.
Memorials may be made to the family.
