John Ungs
John Ungs, former Dubuquer, passed away at the residence of his son-in-law, Frank Straub, 2146 N. Mulliogan Street, Chicago, Wednesday Morning at 1:20 o’clock. He had been ailing for some time.
The funeral was held Saturday morning in Chicago at St. Williams Catholic Church, Rev. Flannigan officiating.
The body arrived in Dubuque Saturday afternoon at 3 o’clock and burial took place in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Rev. J. J. Zeyen officiating.
The deceased was born in Luxemburg, Europe, July 6, 1848. He had been a resident of Chicago for 18 years. While in Dubuque he was a truck farmer on the sageville road. Later he was in the real estate business. Ungs Street in Dubuque is named after him.
He was a member of the Papal Guard.
The survivors are: Son-in-law Frank Straub, Chicago; one nephew, P. J. Ungs, Chicago; a niece, Mrs. M. F. Hunter, former Dubuquer, now living in Milwaukee.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Ungs, one daughter and a brother.
Those from out of town attending the funeral were Mrs. J. B. Ganthier, Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Ungs and sons, Donald and William, and Raymond A. Corcoran and Frank Straub, Chicago.
