Bobby went to be with his Savior on September 3, 2015 after a short hospital stay surrounded by family and friends.

He was born on June 18, 1945 to A.J. “Jay” and Meriel Grubbs in Sweetwater, Tx. where he attended public schools.

After graduation he enlisted in the Navy, beginning his service to our country, and served aboard the destroyer USS Fletcher DD-445 during the Vietnam War.

After his time in the Navy, he continued his service and love of country with the Department of Public Safety as a State Trooper in Denton County. Bobby then became one of our state’s elite Texas Rangers, stationed in Midland and later in Brownwood where he retired after 19 years as a Texas Ranger and a total of 34 years and 6 months with the D.P.S. His passion for public service and law enforcement compelled him to run for Brown County Sheriff, and he was serving his third consecutive term at the time of his death.

Sheriff Grubbs had a knack for inspiring those around him to achieve their best in life. He had a no-nonsense approach and a relentless drive for perfection and professionalism. Bobby was the kind of man that demanded respect. However, it was easy to give him that respect because of his work ethic, integrity, and the example of excellence that he portrayed.

Bobby was also a very devoted family man. He loved spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was always there to lend support, encouragement, and wise advice. Grandkids were a favorite subject of his to anyone who would listen.

He had a fondness for hunting and fishing and he has passed that enthusiasm on to his family.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by Joy Grubbs, his loving wife of 45 years, brother Don Grubbs and wife Elloise of Sweetwater, sister Wanda Walker and husband Keith of Roby, daughter Jannell Johnson and husband David of Brownwood, son John Grubbs of San Antonio, grandchildren Ben Johnson, Abby Johnson, and Adyn Alldredge, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sheriff Bobby Grubbs will be the provider of countless memories, be deeply missed, and continue to inspire us all because he will forever occupy a special place in our hearts.

Visitation will be Monday evening September 7, from 6-8:00 at the Austin Avenue Church of Christ located at 1020 Austin Avenue in Brownwood. Services will be held at 1:30 Tuesday, September 8 at Austin Avenue Church of Christ with burial following at Indian Creek Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, his family requests that memorials be made on his behalf to Cherokee Home for children, the ARK, Christian Women’s Job Corps, or the Texas Ranger Museum.
