Nellis Max Cornett, age 71, of Marion, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2006 at the home of his daughter, Debra Mace.
Nellis was born in Avery County on December 2, 1934 and was a son of the late William Arthur and Medie Emilee Calhoun Cornett.
Nellis was a member of Providence United Methodist Church.
He retired from Marion Mfg. Company after 48 years of service.
He was an avid deer hunter and he was a weather spotter for WLOS News.
His family will remember him as a loving father and grandfather.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Maxine Mitchell Cornett, sister, Lyda Vance and two brothers, Clifton Cornett and Duard Cornett.
Left to cherish his memory are four children, five grandchildren and one step grandson: Debra Mace, daughter and husband Mike of Marion and her children, Chris Ledbetter of Charlotte and Adam Ledbetter of Marion and Michael Mace, step-grandson of Marion, Kathy Moody, daughter and husband Fred of Marion and her children, Luke Robinson of Marion and Hayley Davis and husband Mitch of Hickory, Teresa Brooks, daughter and husband Bill of Asheville and Gary Cornett, son and wife Cindy and their son Marcus Cornett of Asheville; a brother, Herman Cornett of Spruce Pine; a sister, Lois Graybeal of Marion and a dear friend, Lois Duncan of Marion.
A funeral service will be held Friday, July 21, 2006 at 5:00 p.m. at Providence United Methodist Church with Revs. David Miner, George Roberson and Warren Miller Officiating. The family will receive friends one and one half hours prior to the service, from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m., at the church.
Interment will be in Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 70 Providence Church Road, Marion, N. C. 28752.
