FARR WEST - Richard Strong Best, 84, of 1557 W. Farr West Drive, died Friday, May 10, 1985, at his home of heart failure.
He was born Feb. 27, 1901, in Salt Lake City, a son of Edgar O. and Ettie Irene Strong Best.
He married Yvonne Daniels Brown Sept. 9 1929, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
He attended schools in Salt Lake City and Springville, and earned a bachelor of science degree from Utah State University.
Best taught industrial arts at Cedar City, Richfield, Ogden and Weber County. He wrote the introductory course for industrial drafting for Weber State College and helped prepare courses for Utah secondary schools and Utah State University.
He taught at Weber State College for 23 years, retiring in 1969, receiving Emeritus status.
Best worked with the Scouting program for 40 years and in 1984 wrote and published a "History of the First Boy Scout Troop in the State of Utah," of which he had been a member. He received the Silver Beaver Award served as Scoutmaster for 10 years and as Scout Commissioner in four districts.
An active High Priest in the Farr West LDS 1st Ward, Best had been secretary of the quorum for many years. He also served as Sunday School and Priesthood teacher, home teacher and ward clerk.
He was a missionary in Farr West Stake, a mission president, and in the presidency of the Seventies quorum. He was active in temple work.
He was a former secretary of the Western Irrigation Co., and formerly secretary of Plain City Sewer District.
Surviving are his widow of Farr West, two sons and four daughters, Mrs. Ruel (Betty) Allred, Provo; Richard B. Best, Uintah; Mrs. Clair (LaRee) West, Ogden; Mr. Louis B. Best,
Ames, Iowa; Mrs. Thomas (Annette) Van Dyke, Farr West; and Mrs. Carl (Ramona) Humpherys, South Weber; 34 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are three brothers and three sisters, Mrs. Walter (Mary) Peterson, Mrs. Andrew (Margaret) Easton, both of Salt Lake City; Edgar O. Best, Mrs. Robert (Lucille) Booke, both of Springville; ]oseph Best, Orem; and Paul Best, Mapleton.
He was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Lindquist's North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Washington, with Bishop John 1. Watson officiating.
