Ronald Pender (Ronnie), 60 a resident of 134 Jeffries Cove Road, Rocky Mount, NC passed Friday, February 13, 2015 at the Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro, North Carolina.
He was born to the parentage of Virginia E. Pender and the late Willie Pender.
Ronnie graduated from the High School of Fashion Industries of New York in 1973. Immediately following High School he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and later he enlisted in the U. S. Army and served for the next 18 years. He served in Desert Storm, and after 20 years of service he retired. Ronnie was a former employee of American Airlines, Walter Reed Hospital, Butner Correctional Facility and then employed by the VA Medical Center of Durham where he remained until his retirement.
He was a member of True Faith Fellowship Baptist Church of Creedmoor, North Carolina.
Ronnie loved his church. He was a good and faithful member serving as a Trustee and a member of the Young Adult Choir until his health began to decline. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him dearly.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories one son, Raheem Pender of Newberry, SC; his mother, Virginia E. Pender of Edgewater Park, NJ; three sisters, Lorraine Byrd of Edgewater Park, NJ, Cheryl Walters of Charlotte, NC and Toronical Franklin of Brooklyn, NY; one brother, Paul Franklin of Brooklyn, NY and six grandchildren; aunts, uncles and a host of other loving relatives, friends and his loving church family.
In addition to his father Ronnie was preceded in death by two brothers, William Pender and Anthony Franklin; and grandmother Lottie Echols.
Funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am Thursday, February 19 in the Betts & Son Funeral Home Chapel by Reverend Jeanette Pender. Burial will follow in the Raleigh National Cemetery with Military Rites.
