Johnnie was the third of nine children born to William Henry Sr. and Dessie Hattie (Gunter) Wright. He married Beverly Jean Sawyer and they had three children: Johnny Alan, Phillip Lynn and Gary Steven.

LIBERTY - Johnnie Buford Wright, 84, of Liberty passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at Wesley Long Hospital. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 30 at 2 p.m. at The Loflin Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Daniel Francis; burial will follow in Gilmore Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 1 until 1:45 p.m. Buford is the son of the late William Henry and Dessie Gunter Wright and was also preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Sawyer Wright; son, Johnny Alan Wright; sister, Eunice Phillippie and brothers, Clarence and Edward Wright. Surviving are his sons, Phillip Wright and wife, Kris of Snow Camp and Steve Wright and wife, Elizabeth of Liberty; sisters, Ruth Cox of Asheboro, Eva Beal and Treva Davis of Siler City; brother, Henry "Jr." Wright of Liberty, and six grandsons, Andrew, David, Matthew, Jonathan, Joshua, and Daniel Wright. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society, 4A Oak Branch Drive, Greensboro, NC 27407.
