Mrs. Jimmie "Jim" Abernathy was born on March 29, 1917 in McMinnville, Tennessee. She died on August 6, 2015 at the age of 98. Jim was the daughter of the late John A. and Ella Mullican Hendrixson. Her two brothers, Paul and John A. Hendrixson preceded her in death. She was a member of East Main Church of Christ.

Jim was preceded in death by her husband, Robert (Bob) Abernathy in 1983. Bob taught Jim in the sixth grade and on through her high school years. He waited to marry her after her high school graduation. They were married on April 20, 1935.

Jim is survived by son, Dr. Paul (Sande) Abernathy; daughter, Janie (Butch) Campbell; and sister, T. McBroom of Woodbury; grandchildren, Randy Abernathy, Mike (Rita Elgin) Abernathy, Scott (Donna) Abernathy, Alan (Sandy) Abernathy, Dana (Martin) Fischer, Ritch (Guen) Campbell, Chris Campbell, Melissa Jane Campbell (deceased); and great-grandchildren, Meghan, Erik, Kase Abernathy, Alex Abernathy, Sam and Georgia Fischer, Alanna Johnson, Rachel Rivers and McKenna Johnson (deceased).

Visitation with the family will be 1:00-3:00 PM, Sunday, August 9, 2015 at Jennings and Ayers. Graveside Service will follow at 3:30 PM at Evergreen Cemetery with Pam Pilot officiating. Pallbearers will be Mike Abernathy, Scott Abernathy, Ritch Campbell, Chris Campbell, Alex Abernathy, Martin Fischer and Sam Fischer.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital and Adams Place and doctors, Dr. Wayne Murphy, Dr. Frank Carter and Dr. Wayne Westmoreland.
