ROGER ALAN ARROWOOD (Age 63) Of Edenton, NC and formerly of Alexandria, VA passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 27, 2015 following a scuba dive in Key West, FL. An experienced and enthusiastic scuba diver and spear-fisher, Roger suffered a sudden cardiac event and his death was immediate. Roger was born July 22, 1952 in Selma, AL. The son of an Air Force serviceman, he lived in many places and attended four high schools, graduating in Oscoda, MI. He attended Auburn University on a NROTC scholarship, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Aviation Management, and was commissioned in the United States Navy in August of 1974. He was designated a Naval Flight Officer in December 1975. His operational tours as Mission Commander were with Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron One in Agana, Guam (two tours) and Special Projects Unit One in Brunswick, ME. Roger attended Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA in 1987 where he earned a Master of Science in Electronic Warfare Systems Engineering. His staff tours centered on his expertise in Electronic Warfare and Reconnaissance and included tours in the Washington DC area. Roger was the Commanding Officer of Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron Thirty Three in Key West, FL and had over 3,600 hours in the EP-3E and EA-6A aircrafts. He has numerous personal awards including the Legion of Merit; and in 1999, he was presented with the Aviation Week and Space Technology Magazine Laureate Award for Electronics. Roger retired from the US Navy as a Captain with 26 years of service in September 2000. Always a "glass half full" guy, Roger was known for his cheerful outlook and infectious enthusiasm for whatever captured his interest. Extremely competent, he could teach himself to do anything. He was a skilled wood worker, fair diesel mechanic, creative canvas worker, successful geometry tutor, noted raconteur, and superb mariner. He also made some damn fine wine. A loving husband, true friend, and inspirational leader and mentor, his death leaves an empty place in many hearts. Roger was preceded in death by his mother Marjorie Jo Edney Arrowood.
