Jane passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at Haven Hospice in Edison, NJ. Born in Plainfield, she was a lifelong resident of Scotch Plains.

Graduating in 1969 from Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School, Jane attended Glassboro College. She was employed as a health aide with Genesis Nursing Home in Westfield, NJ, then Norwood Terrace in Plainfield, NJ, before retiring in 2014.

Jane was very devoted to her cat and companion Amber (a boy). Also, she cared for the various feral cats who made her yard their home. She took the responsibility for having these female cats spayed, and made sure they had food and water every day.

Jane had a love for all animals. She was especially interested in the Eagles at the Duke Estate in Hillsborough, NJ, and followed their live camera action with great enthusiasm. She was very pleased to make a trip to Duke Farms in May of 2015.

She also followed many other live wildlife cams on-line, including those featuring Owls, Osprey, Whooping Cranes, Eagles, Loons, Bluebirds, Red-Tailed Hawks, Ostrich, Miniature Schnauzer puppies, and the wild animals in Africa. She also enjoyed watching the live safari drives broadcast from South Africa.

Jane was a big fan of the New York Mets baseball team and loved to watch the games on television.

Predeceased by her mother, Nancy, who died in 2008. Jane is survived by her father, Henry; her sisters, Lynn Mittelstaedt, Nancy Kohlenberger, Diana Shoback, and Sue Kelly; her brother, Randel Kohlenberger; and nieces and nephews, Major Brent Mittelstaedt, DO, USAF, Amy Thibodeau, Brendan Kelly, Danielle Shoback and Kimberly Shoback; and grand-nephews, Isaiah and Elias Mittelstaedt.

Services were held in Memorial Funeral Home, Fanwood, NJ, on Sunday, July 26. The family says donations may be made to the Raptor Trust (www.theraptortrust.org) or to Conserve Wildlife Foundation of New Jersey (www.conservewildlifenj.org).

Jane's ashes were interred in the church yard of the Fanwood Presbyterian Church, 74 Martine Ave, South, Fanwood, NJ, November 2015.
