Joseph F. George, 66, of Avon, passed away August 2, 2015. He was born May 29, 1949 in Salinas, CA to the late Elmer George and Mildred (Gates) Porteus.

Survivors include his loving wife of 10 years, Beryle Jean George; children, Stefanie (David) Sverck and Josie George; step-children, Brian (Danielle) Green and Matthew Williams; grandchildren, Karissa Sverck, Carolyn Sverck, Cortlyn Green, Jinah Green; sisters, Carolyn (Gordon) Coffey, Nancy George, Josephine George, Kathi (Steve) Conforti; brother, Anton H. (Laura) George; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Joseph was preceded in death by Carolyn Cox.

An avid bowler, Joseph was a fan of auto racing, woodworking, and American History. A graduate from Indiana State University in 1982, he was employed at Terre Haute First National Bank. Joseph then began his service with Hulman and Company and its subsidiaries including the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Joseph served in the United States Army, stationed in both Germany and Italy, being honorably discharged in 1977. He was also a member of the Indianapolis 500 Oldtimers and The American Legion.

The funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2015, at Conkle Funeral Home Speedway Chapel, where friends may call from 3 p.m. until the time of the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
