Mabel I. Stitt, 90, of 3818 Cherry Run Road, Rimersburg, died at 6 a.m. Saturday, April 10, 2004, in Jefferson Manor, Brookville, where she had resided for the past several years. Born Dec. 18,1913, in Rimersburg, she was the daughter of Henry and Ina Hawk Murray. Mrs. Stitt was a member of the Cherry Run United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing and embroidery. Mrs. Stitt was married Dec. 20, 1932, to Granville G. Stitt, who died Sept. 7, 1999. Surviving are three daughters, Jean Bigley of New Middletown, Ohio, Mrs. William (Geraldine) Unger of McDonald, Ohio, and Mrs. Frank (Mary) Smith of Rimersburg RD; four sons and their wives, Robert and Kathy Stitt of Huey, Ray and Ethel Stitt of Rimersburg RD, Denny and Kathy Stitt of Utica, Ohio, and Gerald and Gwen Stitt of Parker RD; 24 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She also is survived by two sisters, Stella Nessler of Tucson, Ariz., and Della Hunsberger of Pittsburgh; a brother and his wife, Masson and Jean Murray of Sligo; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Loreda Vogt and Twila Graf; three brothers, John, Richard and Max Murray; and two great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Varner Funeral Home of Rimersburg. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Bessie Maihle, retired Methodist minister, officiating. Interment will follow in Cedarview Memorial Park near Strattanville. The family suggests memorial donations be made to Eccles-Lesher Memorial Library, Rimersburg, 16248.
