Mary Lee Boyd was the daughter of Smith Leroy and Isabella Pilcher Boyd. She never married. She graduated from Central Mississippi Institute at French Camp, MS, and taught at Madison County, Starkville, and Aberdeen public schools. In 1913, she moved to Central High School in Jackson, where she taught history until 1945. An elementary school, now a magnet school, in Jackson is named for her.
