Ethel Marie Flowers Raney, 80, of Ivan, died Wednesday April 2, 2003.

Mrs. Flowers was born in Bunn, Arkansas on March 17, 1923 to the late Gus and Bertha Garlington Flowers.

She was a member of the Zion Baptist Church and was a retired registered nurse. She served as director of nurses at the Dallas County Hospital, Southern Nursing Home and Carthage Nursing Home. Mrs. Raney was the only woman elected to serve on the Dallas County Quorum Court.

She is survived by a son and daughter in-law; Robert Michael and Marsha Raney of Bastrop, LA, a daughter and son-law; Lynne Raney and Gene Hill of Camden, a sister; Thelma Overton of Pine Bluff, and a grandson; Ryan Michael Raney of Bastrop, LA.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bob Raney, a brother; John Edward Flowers of Hot Springs, and two sisters; Evelyn Ray and Docia Bryant Lewis of Fordyce.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday April 5, 2003 in the Benton Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Wright Cemetery with the Rev. Rick Bolin and Rev. Nathan Winiecki officiating.
