Sarah Mahaffey Ducker of Mills River died Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at the Elizabeth House.
A native of Mills River, she was born August 4th, 1924, the daughter of the late Nellie Galyean Mahaffey and Daniel Sherman Mahaffey. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Willard Ducker and her brother, Daniel Sherman ""Buddy"" Mahaffey, Jr. as well as eleven half brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Ducker was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend and was a member of Fanning Chapel United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker, a lover of nature and an avid quilter. She, along with her beloved quilting group of 40 plus years, made many quilts for the newborn children in the church as well as for the Linus Project, which provided handmade quilts for critically ill and traumatized children. Mrs. Ducker was a lovely lady who touched many with her kindness, knowledge, quilting talent and outstanding biscuits. She will be greatly missed by those who knew her.
She is survived by her sons, Charles Ducker and wife,JoAnne of Greenville, SC, Stan Ducker and wife, Pam of Mills River, NC; and her grandson, Shane Ducker of Travelers Rest, SC.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 on Saturday, July 25, 2015 in the Sanctuary of Fanning Chapel United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Mike Phipps and Rev. Phillip Trees. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial is private in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Sarah''s memory be directed to Fanning Chapel United Methodist Church, 5490 Old Haywood Road, Mills River, NC 28759 or to Four Seasons Hospice, 571 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of the Elizabeth House for the loving care they gave to Sarah. We greatly appreciate the kindness and compassion shown to our family during our mom's last days with us.
