Steve S. Giusti, 84, died May 5, 1999, at Queen of the Valley Hospital.

Steve was born in Calistoga on Oct. 18, 1914, to Michael and Emma (Giovanni) Giusti, who were both born in Italy. Steve was raised and educated in Calistoga, and graduated from Calistoga High School.

After graduating, he began his long career as a meat cutter. He served his apprenticeship in Vallejo. Steve came to Napa in 1942 where he was employed by Liermans. He left Liermans to open his own meat store at Economy Market on Imola Avenue. In 1964, he retired from owning and operating his own store, and went to work for Giovannoni's Market on Brown Street until he retired in 1976.

Steve was a past grand knight of Alemany Council No. 982 of the Knights of Columbus, a past president of the Italian Catholic Federation Branch No. 12, and a past president of the Butchers Union, Local No. 532. He was also a member of St. Apollinaris Catholic Church and Silverado Country Club.

Steve is survived by his wife, Mary Giusti of Napa; one son, William Giusti of Napa; two daughters, Joan De Angelo of Napa and Pat Accetta of Redding; one sister, Mary Ottonello of Calistoga; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Friends are invited to gather at Claffey and Rota Funeral Home, 1975 Main St., on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and then proceed to St. Apollinaris Catholic Church, 3700 Lassen St., where the funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Entombment will be at Tulocay Cemetery.
