Mattie Lou Boyd was a daughter of Robert Love and Mattie Elkin Boyd. She never married and died in a nursing home in Indianola, Miss. Mattie Lou, like her sisters Della, Laura, and Lovie, taught school as a young woman. As the final child at home, she became the caretaker of aged and needy parents. She began to help in her father's general store in Poplar Creek, then took over full operation after his death. This led to the occupation she followed for the remainder of her working life---retail clerk in mercantile establishments.

Mattie Lou Boyd

Funeral services for Miss Mattie Lou Boyd of Belzoni, were held December 14, from the Lee Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in the Poplar Creek Cemetery with the Rev. Tom Patete officiating.

Miss Boyd, a retired school teacher, died on December 12 at the Care Inn in Indianola.

She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Laura Oakes of Belzoni and Mrs. Lovie Gibson of Anguilla.

Pallbearers were J. D. Boyd, Clyde Gibson, H. B. Curtis, T. J. Holmes, Fred Jeffcoat, and Logan Tribble.
