Services for Elmer W. Gravitt, 72, of Milan, Illinois, were held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, at Larson Funeral Home, Milan. Burial followed at Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery in Rock Island. He died Saturday, April 22, at his home.
Elmer was born in Fayette, Missouri. He married Pearl Phoenix in 1927 in Chariton, Iowa. He later married Bertha Goering in 1938 in Monticello, Missouri. They were married until his death in 1978.
He and Pearl had four children, Catherine Louise "Kitty," Elmer Wayne "Buss," Richard Dean, and Jackie.
He was survived by his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Catherine) Ellston, Des Moines, Iowa; sons, Elmer Gravitt and Richard Gravitt, both of Des Moines; stepdaughters, Mrs. Harvey (Darlene) Palmer, North Fort Myers, Florida, and Irma Riggs, Chariton, Iowa; a stepson, Lyle Medearis, Des Moines; 27 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; sisters, Elsie Franz, Niles, Michigan, Minnie Adkins, Columbia, Iowa, Thelma Spore, East Moline, Illinois, and Cora Taylor, Rock Island, Illinois; and brothers Arthur Gravitt, Coal Valley, Illinois, and Carl Gravitt, Orion, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Jackie; two sisters, Nellie Williams and Stella Gravitt; and two brothers, James Gravitt and Albert Gravitt.
