Effie Ruth (Devore) Shouse was born in Altamont, IL (Effingham County) to Daniel W. and Margaret A. (Miller) Devore. She was married to Rev. T.F. Shouse on Feb. 23, 1888. Mr. Shouse was former superintendent of Springhill Cemetery Association, former Danville mayor and pastor of several local Methodist churches.

She was a member of St. James M.E. Church and had been an ardent church worker with Mr. Shouse during his pastorates of Lincoln, Grace, Central Park, and Vermilion Heights M.E. Churches. Mr. & Mrs. Shouse came to Danville in 1904 from Tower Hill, IL.

Note: This is a relative of my grandfather, William E. Lape, and aunt of my great grandmother, Birtie M. (Mcgeehon) Lape. I found her obituary in some old newspapers my grandfather saved.
