Mary Bolen Archer

On Monday, June 15th, 2015, our most loved, Mary Bolen Archer, of Arcanum, OH formerly of Josephine passed away following a brief illness. She was in her 78th year.

One of seven children, Mary Bell Bolen was born on May 13th, 1937, at Josephine. She was the daughter of the late Jim and Elsie Shrewsbury Bolen. Her sisters, Marcell Bolen and Macy Shrewsbury and brothers, Quincy and Orlen Bolen have preceded her in death. Sisters, Zina Bolen and Lucille Meadows of Josephine survive.

Mary Bell spent her childhood at Josephine. She has been a resident of Arcanum the past 40 years. She was a member of the Ft. Jefferson United Methodist Church. Mary Bell worked for Fram Auto Lite for over 30 years. In her leisure time, she enjoyed gardening and cross word puzzles.

In 1957, Mary Bell married John Archer. They had known each other from childhood. To their union was born three children, John Jr., who died in 2001, James “Jim” Archer and his wife, Amy of Arcanum and Vickie Hawkey of Camden, OH. Mary Bell was the proud grandmother of Brandon, Sarah, Keith, Josh, Jarrod, Mary, Emma and Sidney. Her grandchildren affectionately called her “Granny Bell.” There are several great grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews.

Friday, June 19th at 1:00 pm, we will honor the life of Mary Bell Bolen Archer with a “Service of Remembrance” at the Melton Mortuary Chapel. The family will receive friends at noon. Mary Bell will be laid to rest in the Jenny Cole Cemetery at Odd.
