James Downing Services Tuesday

KOSCIUSKO Funeral services will be held at French Camp presbyterian church Tuesday at 3 p. m. for James Davis Downing, retired mail carrier, who died suddenly at his home in French Camp Monday. He was 70.

Officiating at the last rites will be Rev. Sam Petterson, President of French Camp Academy. Burial will be in French Camp cemetery, under the direction of Jordan Funeral Home of Kosciusko.

Mr. Downing, the son of the late R. A. and Mrs. Ha Winfrey Downing, was a life-long resident of French Camp. He retired in November after serving for 40 years with the Post Office Department as a mail carrier and had received recognition from the Department for his faithful service. He was a member of the French Camp Presbyterian church and was active in church and community affairs.

He leaves his wife, Mrs. Ila Thrailkill Downing of French Camp; a son, J. W Downing of Morgan City; four daughters, Mrs. Olive Downing Thompson of Morgan City, Mrs. Mamie Lou Rigby of Gulfport, Mrs. Ila Davis Kerr of New Orleans, La., and Mrs. Dorothy Dell Fanstone, missionary to Brazil; two brothers," A. W. Downing of Pateulma, Calif., and R. M. Downing of French Camp; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

James Davis Downing was the son of Richard Alexander Downing and Ida Winfrey Downing. James "Jim" Downing was a rural letter carrier. Ida Winfrey was the daughter of Absalom F. and Sarah Lucinda Winfrey, who are buried in Poplar Creek Church Cemetery.
