Mahlon Gib Gibson
Mahlon W. Gib Gibson, 77 of Parma, died Sunday, February 7, 1999 at home with family and friends at his side. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 10, 1999 at Dakan Funeral Chapel in Caldwell. Private interment will be at Canyon Hill Cemetery, Caldwell.
Mahlon was born October 5, 1921 in Matheson, Colorado. He was the youngest of six children born to John and Annie Gibson. The family moved to Caldwell in 1934. He served with the U.S. Marines Corps in the Pacific Theater of Operation during World War II and was wounded twice, receiving the Purple Heart and the Gold Star. He married Lois Gepford in 1950. They traveled many places and made many friends during the years that Gib worked in construction in the Operating Engineers doing diamond test drilling for dams all over the Pacific Northwest.
Having Mahlon for a Dad was almost like having another kid in the family. He was always coming home with the most marvelous bargains of fun, a horse or a boat or a trampoline, and Lois could be heard to say again, Oh, Gib! He never missed a game or a play and was always up to a wrestling match or a dog pile on uncle Gib. He will be deeply missed by all the kids of the family, many of whom are now grown.
He was preceded in death by his son, Stephen, who once told his daughter, Your grandpa is my best friend.
He was a member of the DAV, the American Legion and the Operating Engineers.
Mahlon is survived by his wife, Lois; a son, Kenneth Gibson of San Antonio, Texas; a daughter and her husband, Marcia and Phil Bryan of Vancouver, Washington; his sister, Lora Strange of Caldwell; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces and nephews and friends.
The family suggests memorials be made to Horizon Hospice in Meridian or a favorite charity.
Friends may call at Dakan Funeral Chapel in Caldwell from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday evening.
