William Thomas "W.T." Atwell, Sr. , 77, Mayo, Fl passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2013.The lifelong resident of Mayo was a member of American Legion Post 105 which held several officers and Salem Baptist Purity Church in Salem, Fl. Mr. Atwell retired from the U.S. Air Force after serving 20 plus years. He served two tours and was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. He also served as Chief of Police in Mayo for 11 years and retired from Lafayette County Sheriff's Dept as Major after 15 plus years. Mr. Atwell is survived by his daughter: Michelle (George) Raney, Orange Springs, Fl; one sister: Carris Atwell Shiver, Mayo, Fl; two brothers: Keith (Amanda) Lemmon, Alachua, Fl, Andy (Nan) Snider, O'Brien, Fl; seven grandchildren: William John Thomas Atwell, Sabrina Nicole Atwell, Timothy Wayne Atwell, Jr., Joshua Atwell Boyette, Chrislyn D. Varga, First Sgt. Lewis, Dalton and Heather Lewis-Grant. He was preceded in death by his two sons: William Thomas Atwell, Jr. and Timothy Wayne Atwell, Sr. Services will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, August 4th at Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Bobby Joe Hires, Rev. Larry Kerly and Rev. George Raney officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers family ask donations be made to Salem Baptist Purity Church 10400 Fish Creek Road Salem, Fl 32356.
