Byrne was the maiden surname of his father's mother.
He married Mary Anastatia Moran in 1908.
They had two children, John William and Mary Barbara.
After serving in WW1, he was a District Commissioner in Uganda for many years.
A fire destroyed Rosemount House, New Ross, Co. Wexford, on Thursday 10th September 1925. Edmond Byrne Place died in hospital the following day, Friday 11th September.

FUNERAL OF CAPTAIN E. B. PLACE
The remains of Captain E. B. Place, who died as a result of injuries caused by falling debris, when he was fighting the fire which destroyed his brother's residence, Rosemount, New Ross, on Thursday last, were removed from the Parish Church, New Ross, on Sunday, for interment at St. Mullin's. There was a very large and representative attendance of the general public. A large number of ex-Service men marched in the funeral procession, and six of them acted as pall-bearers. The chief mourners included Captain A. D. Place, Major N. Place, and Captain H. L. Place (brothers).
Death Certificate.
Edmond Byrne Place, aged 45, married, a Civil Servant, from Rosemount, died at the Haughton Hospital, New Ross, on 11 September 1925.
The cause of death was Cerebral Compression, certified.
His death was registered by a member of the hospital staff, on 30 April 1926.
