He was a native of Marion County, a line loader for General Electric Co., a Navy veteran of the Korean War and a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, the former Darnell Farris; two sons, Joseph E. Jr. and Michael S. Mattingly; a stepdaughter, Alanna Nally; a stepson, Mark Nally, with the Navy in Jacksonville, Fla.; his mother, Theresa M. Smith of Loretto; five sisters, Shirley Norris of Waddy, Martha Terry of Bedford, Linda Stallings and Melvina Mattingly, both of Loretto, and Mary Curtsinger; and four brothers, Louis and David Mattingly, both of Frankfort, and Lawrence and Carl Mattingly, both of Loretto.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mattingly Funeral Home in Loretto, with burial in Old Liberty Cemetery in Bradsfordsville.
Visitation will be at Arch L. Heady Okolona Funeral Home, 8519 Preston Highway, from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, and at Mattingly Funeral Home from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday.
