MINERAL RIDGE - James J. "Jackie" Carpenter, 58, 1392 Salt Springs Road, died at 11:58 p.m. Sunday, March 27, 2005, at his residence following a short illness.

He was born in Huntington, W. Va., on March 1, 1947, to Leroy and Georgia (Cline) Carpenter and came to Niles in 1949 from Kentucky.

A member of the Apostolic Pentecostal Church, he attended the Fairhaven Workshop and enjoyed watching the Cleveland Indians and Browns.

He is survived by his aunt, Pauline Humphrey, with whom he lived; sister Mrs. Donald (Donna) Mayer of Cortland; brother Robert Carpenter of Girard; stepmother Bertha Carpenter of Niles; two stepbrothers, Don Crank of Mineral Ridge and Herbie (Ruthie) Crank of Columbus; two stepsisters, Mrs. William (Linda) Wilks of Warren, and Mrs. Donald (Kathy) Gadd of Niles; and several aunts, uncles and several nieces and nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a stepbrother, Charles E. Crank Sr.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, March 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home. Calling hours will be Wednesday, March 30 at 11 a.m. at the Apostolic Pentecostal Church, DeForest Road, Warren. The Rev. Douglas Brown will officiate. Burial will be at Meadowbrook Cemetery.
