Lester O. Schanz, 88, of Langdon, ND passed away Friday, May 1, 2015 at Vibra Hospital in Fargo, ND.

Lester was born October 15, 1926 in Gordon Twp. near Alsen, ND to Albert and Sophie (Pfeifer) Schanz. He attended school at Gordon #1 and Langdon. Lester enetered the US Navy in 1944 aboard the USS Vella Gulf and was honorably discharged in 1946. He returned to Langdon and then went to Milwaukee, WI. After working in Milwaukee, he returned to Langdon and worked at both the National T and Piggly Wiggly grocery stores as produce manager. Lester was the janitor at the high school in Langdon and then went to work at Easy Way until retiring. He loved to go to the Bread Pan and Cenex for coffee and socializing with his friends. He was a supporter of the local Eagles Club, eating there every Wednesday and Friday evening. He enjoyed collecting matchbooks and had quite a collection. Lester was a member of the Eagles Aerie #3464 and a life-long member of the VFW.

Lester is survived by sister Caroline Beggs of Langdon, nephew Kenneth (Sharon) Beggs of Langdon, great-nephew Jonathon (Megan) Larson of TN, great-great nephew Titus Larson, great-great niece Nikita Larson and many cousins.

Services will be held Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Emmanuel Evangelical Church in Langdon, ND. Visitation will start at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday and continue until the time of the service.
