Dorothy A. Shaw, 87, passed away Mar. 7, 2015 at Heritage Place in Soldotna. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Mar. 13, at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Kenai. Father Tom Rush, O.M.I. will officiate. Her cremated remains will be interred at the Shrine of St. Therese in Juneau, Alaska. Dorothy was born Oct. 11, 1927 in Schenectady, New York. She attended school at St. Joseph’s Academy in Schenectady. She then attended Mildred Elly Secretarial School in Albany, New York and worked for Prudential Insurance in Albany and Kingston, N.Y. Dorothy moved to Alaska in 1963 and lived in Big Delta, before moving to Kenai in 1968. She was a volunteer for years and a part-time employee at the Kenai Community Library from 1980, until retiring in 1991. She was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church and volunteered for breakfasts at the Kenai Alternative High School and church and library activities. Dorothy was preceded in death by her father, John J. Von Stetina, her mother, Julia M. Mach, and brother, John J. Von Stetina, Jr. She is survived by her husband, George F. Shaw of Kenai; daughters, Mary T. Shaw and Catherine J. Wooton, both of Stockton, Calif.; sons, John G. Shaw of South San Francisco, Calif., Robert F. and William M. Shaw both of Anchorage; grandsons, Justin A. and Tyler J. Willey, both of Stockton; granddaughters, Jennifer and Kathleen Shaw, both of Anchorage; and sisters, Dolores Kelly of Hyde Park, N.Y. and Joan Simonds of Zephyrhills, Fla. And many nieces and nephews. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements were by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
