In 1944, milkman Raymond Colgan braved gas fumes to attempt a rescue of a sailor who broke open a natural gas line to commit suicide (Philadelphia Inquirer - 08 May 1944). In 1952, his son Raymond Junior lead a similar evacuation from gas fumes in a building on his own milk route.
