Lelia was a native and resident of St. Martinville. She was devoted to her adored husband of 64 years, Joseph, her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Her home will be remembered by her family as warm, welcoming, and always full of love and laughter. Most Sundays you could find some of her children and their families visiting and enjoying her homemade chicken stew and field peas for lunch. Her grandchildren all fondly remember their Mom Mom walking amongst her grandchildren with her cookie jar asking "want cookie?". She was a kind, loving, woman who cherished her family and her Catholic faith and held both closely to her.
She is survived by five sons, Clifton Gaudet and Dennis Gaudet of St. Martinville, Louis Gaudet of Moss Bluff, Raymond Gaudet of Lafayette, and Joseph Gaudet, Jr. of Broussard; six daughters, Hilda Gaudet, Lillian Fontenot, and Ethel Rodriguez of Lafayette, Jenny Bateman of Houma, Joyce Gondron of Loureauville, and Shirley Hernandez of San Antonia, TX; one sister Leah Louviere of Loreauville; 26 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph Gaudet, Sr.; her parents, Bernard Berthelot and Elda Barrilleaux Berthelot and five brothers, Louis, Camille, Fernest, Simon, and John Berthelot.
Pallbearers were: Clifton Gaudet, Dennis Gaudet, Louis Gaudet, Raymond Gaudet, Joseph Gaudet, Jr. and Allen Gondron.
