VIET TREE FALL KILLS SERGEANT
An Army career man, Sgt. 1.C. Edward Wallace Brown Jr. of 4011 MacCorkle Avenue SE, was killed Monday while preparing for combat operations in Vietnam.
Sgt. Brown, 30, who had been in the Army 11 years, died when a tree fell on a vehicle in which he was riding while clearing a path for a combat mission.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite Consistory in Memphis, Tennessee, Masonic Lodge No. 83 AF&AM in Bamberg, Germany, and Farrar Memorial Baptist Church in Rand. He was a 1954 graduate of DuPont High School.
Surviving: wife, Dolores; son, Edward Wallace III at home; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward W. Brown, Sr. of Rand; sisters, Mrs. Mary Hammons and Mrs. Martha Workman of Rand; grandmother, Mrs. Myrtle Harmon of Rand.
The body will be sent to the Fidler and Frame Funeral Home at Belle.
