Granville Ferry, June 9
The death of Mrs Amoret D Shaffner, highly esteemed resident of Granville Ferry occurred at the Annapolis General Hospital on Thursday, June 5th. During the month of May, Mrs Shaffner was a patient at the Lilac Nursing Home, Annapolis Royal. For the past 4 years, Mrs Shaffner had made her home with her daughter, Mrs JA Ruffee and Mr Ruffee. She was born at Granville Ferry a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs James A Waugh, and she was 81 years of age on March 22. Mrs Shaffner was married twice. Her first husband, Vernon Heartz Amberman died 28 years ago. During most of their married life they resided at Granville Ferry where Mr Amberman was associated in business with his father, the late William Amberman, and operated a General Store. The business was purchased by the late FE Wood and Mr and Mrs VH Amberman moved to Middleton, where they resided until his death. Following her marriage to Edgar C Shaffner of Lawrencetown she resided there for a number of years until his death 4 years ago. Throughout the years, Mrs Shaffner was an ardent church worker. In her early years she became a member of the Methodist Church (now the United Church) and for many years she was organist and choir director. She taught in the Sunday School and for many years she acted as president of the Women's Missionary Society, and she was made a Life Member. She was a valued member of the Ladies' Aid and a member of the Unity Rebekah Lodge. By her first marriage were born 2 daughters and 2 sons. Her older daughter, Adeline (Addie) Amberman predeceased her mother many years ago. Mrs Shafner is survived by her daughter, Josephine, Mrs JA Ruffee, Granville Ferry; and 2 sons: William Amberman, Northampton, Mass. and Robert V Amberman of Toronto. She leaves 6 grandchildren: Kathleen (Ruffee) Stafford, wife of Corporal AE Stafford of the RCMP in Ottawa; Vernon E Amberman, Granville Ferry, and James, Edward, Eleanor and Richard Amberman in Northampton, Mass. There are also 2 great grandchildren: _____ , and a sister, Mrs Laura Bent, Granville Centre. The funeral was in Granville Ferry United Church, Reverend CH Gough officiating. Interment was in Stoney Beach Cemetery.
