Lodie was the daughter of J.T. "Jim" and Sarah Elisabeth McInvale Woodard. She was born November 7, 1898 in Randolph County, Alabama.

Her first marriage was to Ezra B. Johnson which produced two sons: Marvin Winfred Johnson and Carl Johnson. Ezra died in 1918, three days after Lodie's 20th birthday, so she and her two young sons moved to Helicon in Winston County to live with her parents.

On August 21, 1921, she married Amos Adair. This union produced four children: James Mancel Adair, Leon Adair, Blanton Leeth Adair, and Barbara Ann Adair James.
