Howard Hunter Merica, 89, of McGaheysville, VA, passed away on Friday February 27, 2015 at his home. He was born in Page County on December 13, 1925 and was the son of the late Harvey Hunter Merica and Nora Lee Breeden Merica.

Howard was in the armed services during World War II. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Julia Lam Merica, whom he married on May 25, 1946. He lived in Maryland for 40 years and retired from the University of Maryland. He was an active member of the Elkton Pentecostal Church. He enjoyed playing the harmonica and traveling.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by five brothers Noah Merica, Floyd Merica, James Merica, Carl Merica, Lynwood Merica, and one sister Frances Turner.

He is survived by a brother Melvin Merica & wife, Mildred, College Park, Maryland. Three sister-in-laws Blanche Merica, College Park, Md, Cathaline Hensley, Elkton, Eva Kyger, Mt. Crawford, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2pm Monday, March 2, 2015 at the Elkton Pentecostal Church with Pastor Travis Hensley officiating. Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends Sunday evening 6 to 8 at the Kyger funeral Home in Elkton.
