Arline J. Jones, 87, formerly of Columbia City, died early Thursday morning, February 26, 2015 at Englewood Health & Rehab, Fort Wayne.

She was born July 18, 1927 in Thorncreek Township, Whitley County a daughter of Floyd D. and Gladys L. (Betzner) Chapman. She attended Thorncreek School and graduated from Columbia City High School.

On July 26, 1947 she was united in marriage to William E. Jones. They made their home in Columbia City.

Arline was an excellent cook and seamstress and had many other characteristics of a good homemaker. She also assisted her husband in the operations of Jones Photos in which she was the color artist for the oil photographs in addition to bookkeeping.

She was a member of Columbia City United Methodist Church, rarely missed attending and was an upbeat, positive person.

Surviving relatives include her husband, Bill of Huntington; four children, Carol (Brian) Thompson of Espanola NM, Susan (James) Cartwright of Muncie, Marquis A. Jones of Columbia City and Nola (Robert) Smodic of Nashville TN; six grandchildren, Rachel, Michelle, Tyler, Jack, Tom and Grant; and two great grandchildren, Elaine and Emma.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Chapman and Phil Chapman; and a sister, Martha Lane.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with visitation after 12 Noon Saturday. The burial will be in St. Matthews Cemetery.

Preferred memorials are to Columbia City United Methodist Church or Alzheimer's Association.
